Student Elections 2026

A reminder to all school with students above year 9 that they are required to run student representative elections for the school board in September.  The recommended date is Thursday, September 3.  All students in Year 9 and above can participate.

Mid-term Elections

The Ministry of Education has confirmed the date for mid-term elections as Wednesday, March 31, 2027.  This only affects schools that run staggered elections.

Election Planner Tool

The Election Planner Tool is used by boards to organise their school's board election campaigns, to ensure the elections are run well, and the most is made of the opportunity to involve your community. 

The timeframe for elections is prescribed in legislation and is used for this tool.

  • All parent elections run to a legislated 63 day schedule.
  • Staff elections held at the time of triennial elections run to a 63 day schedule
  • Staff by-elections are run to a 31 day schedule.
  • All student elections run to a 31 day schedule

Notes

  1. By entering the date of your Election Day below, all other dates will automatically calculate 
    • To enter the election date, click in the election day box and it will bring up the calendar
    • Click in the top right corner to scroll to the correct date
    • This will then generate all the dates for your election process
  2. Student elections must be held on a day in September.

Please note

If there is the same or fewer nominations than positions available voting is not required.  This is called a non-voting election.  The election is over on the day that nominations close. All nominated candidates are elected to the school board.  The elected members will take office 7 days after the nominations close date.
