Nomination Forms

If you are on the electoral roll for a board election currently underway at your school or kura,  you should have received a nomination form by post or by email.

If you haven’t received one, get in touch with them directly.

How to nominate?

Anyone on the school’s parent, staff, or student electoral roll can nominate themselves – you don’t need to wait for someone else to do it.

You can also nominate someone else, as long as they’re happy to stand. You can nominate more than one person.

If you’re not a parent at the school, you can be nominated by someone who is on the parent electoral roll.

What is a candidate statement?

If you’re the candidate, you have the option to submit a written piece (up to 400 words) that introduces you to the voters.

This is your opportunity to showcase your background, motivation, commitment, and what you could bring to a school board.

Here are some points that you may like to consider highlighting in your statement – your experience, qualifications, skills, interests, and reasons for standing.

You may also include a passport-style photo.

Make sure your signed candidate statement is received by the returning officer by the deadline shown on your form.

What happens after nominations close?

There are two possible outcomes once nominations have closed:

  • A no-vote election
If the number of nominations received is fewer than or equal to the number of vacancies, then all candidates are automatically elected to the board.

  • A voting election
If the number of nominations received is more than the number of vacancies, a vote will be held.
